Cape Town – A Hanover Park widow wanted to honor her late husband with a beautiful headstone on the first anniversary of his death.
Cleo Snyders went to Gloria Memorial Park Cemetery in Ottery, where she ordered the headstone for R7 610 on August 1.
It was to be built and installed on November 18 before the inauguration, which was scheduled for November 21.
“They said in November that there is a delay and asked for an extension. I agreed, ”she says.
The mother of three took a day off from work to pay for catering services and rent chairs and tents for guests.
“I decided that I will be present to see how everything goes. I went to the cemetery, but they weren’t there. I called and they said they would come, ”says Cleo.
She waited in vain with her three children for the tombstone to be delivered to her.
“We stayed in the sun waiting for them. I went to his office and they told me there was a bakkie in the cemetery laying the tombstone. “
He returned, but found no bakkie.
“They took me for a fool and I had to cancel everything. I lost money and couldn’t give my husband the honor he deserves. Her grave breaks my heart when I see her, ”he says.
Cleo is now fighting for a refund. She says they offered her a different headstone first, but she refused because it wasn’t what she had paid for.

One of them said they knew about Cleo, but had not taken care of her.
“She signed a document that says her money will be refunded in 30 days.
“We were not the ones who sold the tombstone and the person who did it will be available next week,” said the only woman.
