JOHANNESBURG – Energy company Eskom has announced that it will implement stage 2 load shedding on Saturday and Sunday.
The announcement comes just hours after Eskom asked South Africans to reduce their electricity consumption because the power grid was severely restricted.

The utility company said stage 2 load shedding would run from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and that this would be repeated on Sunday.
In a statement Friday night, the utility company said it had had a “lot of unforeseen breakdowns from old and unreliable plants over the past few days.”
In addition, Eskom explained that it had shut down two generating units at the Kendall Power Plant in accordance with environmental legislation and that four units had been shut down at the Camden Power Plant to preserve the integrity of the ash dam facility.
