Health Minister Zweli Mkhize announced that young people between the ages of 15 and 19 were now the drivers of the virus.

JOHANNESBURG – While Cabinet will have to deliberate on appropriate regulations for the second wave of COVID-19, some young people say that will not stop them from going out this holiday season.

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize announced that young people between the ages of 15 and 19 were now the drivers of the virus.

This same week, Rage’s popular New Years Eve parties, attended by matrics, were identified as super-spread events, and everyone who attended was urged to self-quarantine.

The festive season is a time for a break, vacations, and parties, and December is the lead up for New Years Eve, where countdown parties are the theme of the night.

Young people, who are often the target market for these holidays, are now the drivers of COVID-19, mainly due to their asymptomatic nature.

But Minenhle Ejesi said that would not stop her from going out: “I am still going to go out and follow the COVID-19 regulations outlined by the government and I hope never to contract the virus.”

Her friend Nomusa Nkomo, however, said that she would not be joining her.

“It is not practical. We are used to going out and having fun. It’s December and we want to enjoy ourselves, but this year things have become very uncomfortable, so it is very difficult to adapt ”.

Mkhize said a decision had yet to be made on a tougher lockdown or more restrictions.
