• George Russell replaced Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton at the Sakhir Grand Prix.
• Hamilton tested positive for Covid-19, prompting Mercedes to call Russell from Team Williams.
• The Briton put on an impressive performance, finishing second behind teammate Valtteri Bottas.
• Russell executed a brilliant overtake over the more experienced Finn and showed great determination and determination.
George Russell did everything he could during race weekend to show Mercedes that he deserves a seat in 2022.
The young British pilot replaced his more experienced compatriot Lewis Hamilton, who tested positive for Covid-19. And so Russell had a golden opportunity of what he could accomplish in the factory car, and the goodness impressed him.
The Williams driver was right in free practice on Friday and qualified in the front row in a one-two for Mercedes. Ironically, the front pair have struggled with openings in 2020, but it was Russell who nailed the start and took the lead from Bottas.
Winning the fairytale race in the fastest car on the grid seemed to be on the cards for Russell, but it ended up not being his day as the racing gods just weren’t smiling on him.
Much of the blame rests with the team, whose mistake made them go from one to two to both drivers fitting the wrong tires.
However, Russell certainly did enough to claim a leadership in F1 going forward and proved he has the pedigree to win races. A moment during the 22-year-old’s second season, in which he was behind Bottas, resulted in a phenomenal overtaking that was praised by (British) commentators and fans.

It should be noted that Russell was on the cooler rubber and his teammate was struggling with tire degradation; however, it was an outstanding move.
