Pretoria – A police brigadier and her husband, who allegedly received a 500,000 rand bribe from self-proclaimed prophet and church leader of the Enlightened Christian Encounter (ECG), Shepherd Bushiri, obtained bail in Pretoria Magistrates Court.

Brigadier Rosy Resandt, 46, attached to the National Headquarters Organized Crime Detective Unit, and her husband, Clifford Resandt, 50, appeared in court for allegedly receiving a R500,000 bribe from Bushiri in January 2018.

According to the Priority Criminal Investigation Directorate (Hawks), the couple turned themselves in to police on Wednesday shortly after the arrest warrants were issued in connection with the alleged bribery.

In their request for bail, the couple indicated through their legal representative that they had no prior convictions or pending cases against them and that, in fact, they had fully cooperated with investigating officers as soon as they were notified that the police were following them. .

They also voluntarily surrendered their travel documents to the police and requested that they be released because they had to take care of their four children, two of whom were still of school age.

The State did not object to their release on bail, but requested that a reasonable amount and strict conditions be set for the bail, even so that they would not leave the province. Also for the brigadier to give him one more passport in his possession, even though he is old and expired.

The magistrate granted each R15,000 bail with conditions for them to appear at the Olivenhoutbosch Police Station every Monday between 6pm and midnight and not interfere with any state witnesses.

Other conditions included that they did not leave the province, except in the case of the police officer, who would be allowed to travel once his itinerary was provided to the investigating officer.

You were given 14 days to find your expired passport, otherwise you would have to file an affidavit with the court.

And finally, both are not allowed to approach any port of entry and are not allowed to request any travel documents.

The matter was postponed to February 25 for further investigation.
