This week, the Malawi government confirmed that it had begun a process to arrest the Bushiris. This is after an extradition request submitted by the South African government last week.
The couple are expected to appear in the Lilongwe High Court in Malawi on Monday, December 14, where they will appeal their arrest. This is after they turned themselves in to the police in their home country after Interpol issued a notice.
The couple and three other defendants, Willah Mudolo, his wife Zethu and Landiwe Ntlokwana, face charges of fraud, theft and corruption in the amount of 100 million rand.
The trio in SA are expected to appear in Pretoria magistrates court on Monday.
Bushiri, 37, founded and directs the Illustrated Christian Gathering (ECG) Church.
