According to Hawks spokesman Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo, in July 2015, members of the Port Shepstone Serious Organized Crimes Unit received information from Crime Intelligence about a man who wanted to sell a municipal truck for 150,000 rand. On August 18, 2015, a sting operation was carried out. Dlamini was arrested while delivering the truck.

His accomplices, Cele and Caluza, who were waiting nearby, fled the scene on foot.

The following day, members of the Hawks received information from police that the municipal trucker’s body had been found in a sugar cane field. They tied his hands behind his back and shot him.

Cele and Caluza were later arrested and charged.
