A Mpumalanga man has been arrested after allegedly fleeing.
- The man was arrested after a year of allegedly on the run.
- The 27-year-old allegedly killed his girlfriend, then raped her 9-year-old daughter and set the room on fire.
- Neighbors of the victim were alerted to the fire when the woman’s nine-year-old daughter called for help.
A 27-year-old man who had allegedly been a fugitive in the Lowveld of Mpumalanga for more than a year has been arrested.
In June last year, a manhunt was launched for the killer after he allegedly killed his girlfriend, then raped his 9-year-old daughter, and then set the room on fire to allegedly try to cover up his crime.
The young woman, however, managed to escape from the burning room she shared with her mother and the suspect.
At the time of the incident, White River Police investigated the possibility of a revenge attack on the woman in Msholozi Township.
The 28-year-old woman was allegedly burned beyond recognition after the house caught fire.

Neighbors of the victims were alerted to the fire when the woman’s 9-year-old daughter called for help.
The fire in the one-room brick block house was still burning and neighbors tried to put out the fire with sand and buckets of water.
After the fire department put out the fire, the woman’s charred body was found inside the room.
Sgt Cynthia Mbokodo, a police spokeswoman in White River at the time, said the couple moved into the area just months before the incident.
The State wants to prove that the suspect was involved in a domestic dispute with his girlfriend that later led him to kill her and set the house on fire, which is located in Section D of the Msholozi municipality.
Eyewitnesses told police that the girl was barefoot and bleeding from her private parts when she came to the neighbor’s house for help.
