JOHANNESBURG – Ike Moroe, a veteran member of the African National Congress (ANC), urged members to go to court to oust General Secretary Ace Magashule.
Moroe, a former Magashule adviser, spoke after this week’s national executive committee meeting in which the ruling party leadership decided not to push for Magashule to step aside, but to allow it to present its case to its committee on integrity.
Magashule faces charges of fraud, corruption and money laundering stemming from his time as Prime Minister of the Free State.

Moroe said individual members of the ANC must act to save the party’s reputation.
He said that when it came to wrongdoers in the ANC, their delegates at the 2017 elective conference made it clear that the NEC’s job was to enforce the decisions that had been agreed upon.
He said the indecision displayed by party leaders should concern members.
Moroe said it would be within his rights to question the executive committee and, if he is not satisfied, to seek further resources.

“They should have the right to say that there are protocols and make sure the decisions made are implemented.”
Moroe also said it was unwise for the party’s general secretary to fight his possible suspension at all costs, as it created a troubling impression.
“There is the possibility of impunity when people have been committing acts of corruption in this province and that is the impunity that must be eliminated. People cannot just do bad things.”
Magashule will meet with the ANC’s integrity commission on Saturday, after which officials will process the result.
