The Deputy Director of Supply Chain Management (SCM) in eThekwini Municipality, Sandile Ngcobo, and his wife Vuyiswa, who previously held a position in the municipality, have been detained again by the Hawks in the R430m Durban tender saga Solid Waste (DSW) in progress. .
The couple and two unidentified individuals, one of whom works in the township, were arrested Wednesday following an investigation by members of the Hawks’ National Clean Audit Task Force into fraud and corruption.
Hawks spokesman Col. Katlego Mogale said four people between the ages of 23 and 42 were arrested for alleged fraud and corruption in the amount of R3.2m and related to the 2016 DSW tender.
“The sole director of Nhlanzi Catering and Events Pty (Ltd), an official of the municipality of eThekwini, the deputy director of SCM at eThekwini and his wife were arrested this morning following an investigation by the National Clean Audit Task Force on fraud and corruption within the eThekwini Municipality’s Durban Solid Waste Tender, ”he said.
Mogale said investigations revealed that there was a transaction on Kloppers Attorneys’ trust account from Nhlanzi’s account for R1m.
