The province is currently tracking the contacts of 1,300 Gauteng students who attended the famous Ballito rabies party.

Gauteng’s health department said that of the 1,956 students who attended the annual matrix party in the seaside town on vacation from Nov. 28 through Saturday, 1,300 were from the province.

Meanwhile, the KwaZulu-Natal health department said at least 533 of the students were from that province.

Dr. Nomathemba Mokgethi from the Gauteng Health MEC said that his contact tracing team was working around the clock to track all the students who participated in the event.

“It is important that everyone is tested and monitored until approved by doctors. The need to remain vigilant can never be overstated considering the fact that Covid-19 is still among us and the fight against this pandemic is far from over, so we must do our part, “said Mokgethi.

Rage spokesman Darren Sandras said the festival takes the health and safety of all attendees very seriously, as they have for the past 21 years.

“It has always been the festival’s top priority to keep attendees safe. We are fully complying with all authorities and stakeholders and will continue to do so, ”he said.
