DURBAN – The Asset Forfeiture Unit has seized several real estate and vehicles belonging to five staff members in the office of KwaZulu-Natal Prime Minister Sihle Zikalala and his four co-defendants in a multi-million dollar corruption case.
Senior officials in the prime minister’s office accused of corruption include CFO Ziphathe Cibane and supply chain manager Nonhlanhla Hlongwa.
The nine defendants are alleged to have rigged a catering tender worth more than 20 million rand.
Members of Prime Minister Zikalala’s staff and his co-defendants were arrested between July and October this year.
The spokesman for the National Tax Authority (NPA), Sipho Ngwema, said that the assets seized from the defendants would be kept under guardianship pending the outcome of the criminal trial.
