Residents are seen fleeing their homes after the suspect before successfully arresting him.
Police spokesman Capt. Tintswalo Sibeko told News24 that John Kumalo, 35, was arrested on Wednesday, December 2, and appeared in Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Friday.
“The case was postponed until December 11 for further investigation and the suspect has been taken into custody,” he said.
Sibeko advised crime victims to “comply, stay calm and do not argue with the perpetrators.”
He added that victims must remember that “their lives are the most important thing” and avoid fighting back.
The woman’s purse was returned to her and she is seeking medical attention for the injuries she sustained. Parkview Victim Support cared for her and provided counseling.
