JOHANNESBURG – The state’s capture investigation heard that the government committee and people told then-Minister Lynne Brown that they wanted an interim group executive director for Eskom and Brown suggested that Brian Molefe be seconded by Transnet.

Former Eskom board chairman Ben Ngubane is back on commission Tuesday morning, answering questions about the Tegeta R1.6 billion guarantee that did not get board approval and other matters.

Former Eskom head of legal and compliance Suzanne Daniels confirmed Monday that former chief financial officer Anoj Singh approved it without a board resolution.

But she said she used a board resolution for the same amount for an Optimum prepaid.

Advocate for evidence leader Pule Seleka read a section of Ngubane’s affidavit in the investigation.

“The minister suggested that we consider Brian Molefe, the board was willing to accept the minister’s suggestion because we knew of Mr. Molefe’s track record based on his work on the Public Investment Commission and Transnet. The board felt that Eskom was very stressed and needed someone with Mr. Molefe’s skills and experience. ”
