The criminal proceedings against former President Jacob Zuma and the French arms manufacturer Thales have been postponed until February 23 next year.
Judge Nompulelo Radebe granted the consent order in Pietermaritzburg High Court on Tuesday.
Zuma and a representative from Thales weren’t on the bench. Radebe said both were excused with the permission of the court.
He said there were pending technical issues related to pre-trial issues, such as:
- certification of the test letter;
- a request for additional information; as much as
- clarity on international travel restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as several witnesses live abroad.
Radebe said Thales’ civil review request to clarify the racketeering charges against him must be finalized by February 23.
Zuma is accused of receiving an annual bribe of 500,000 rand from Thales to protect himself from an investigation into the controversial multi-million dollar arms deal.
The alleged bribery was facilitated by Zuma’s former financial adviser, Schabir Shaik.
