LONDON – A glistening obelisk similar to those found in the United States and atop a hill in Romania has been seen by the sea off the southern coast of England.
The gleaming pillar atop the pyramid was discovered on Compton Beach on the Isle of Wight early Sunday morning, drawing large crowds and sparking speculation about how it got there.
A similar-looking reflective structure appeared briefly in the Utah desert late last month, then two others appeared in Southern California and Romania days later.

The initial discovery fueled the imaginations of UFO watchers, conspiracy theorists, and fans of the classic sci-fi movie “2001: A Space Odyssey,” which features a strange alien monolith.
An anonymous art collective has claimed credit for the Utah installation, but no one has claimed responsibility for the Romanian and Isle of Wight installations.
In Romania some locals dismissed it as a poorly made replica, while in Compton Beach locals were initially curious but suspected it was a similar copycat.

“The person who put it there knows what he’s doing,” said Tom Dunford, who tripped over the 2.2-meter reflected object while walking his dog Sunday morning.
“This is someone who is playing a prank. I don’t believe in any of these conspiracy theories,” he told Sky News television.
Alexia Fishwick, a resident of the Isle of Wight, called it “incredibly stylish” but told the BBC: “A lot of people walked past him and ignored him.”
