Despite venturing into the transfer market to bolster their squad, the Orlando Pirates haven’t been convincing in the DStv Premiership.
The Bucs have won two games and drawn four in the league, and due to their transfer activities, many have been tipping them to challenge champion Mamelodi Sundowns for the championship title.
The Pirates drew 2-2 against Cape Town at Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch over the weekend. Before their game against the Citizens, the Bucs drew 1-1 with Baroka at home. Stellenbosch and AmaZulu also limited them to 1-1 this season.
This Saturday, the Soweto giants play the MTN8 Cup final against Bloemfontein Celtic at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. The Bucs will have to bring their A game and work on their defense and finish to end their five-year trophy drought.
Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer defended his recruits and said they needed more time for things to happen.
“We fought for the three points but we were not lucky on our side. I am happy with the performance but not with the result. The new players played well, but we need a little luck. There is no magic here because we have to work and they also need more time to adjust to the setup, ”said Zinnbauer.
“We create enough opportunities to win the game. I’m upset with the result, ”he added.
Mduduzi Mdantsane and Abbubaker Mobara scored for the home team. But Vincent Pule helped the Pirates come back twice from behind with two goals. Zinnbauer awaits Lady Luck in the cup final against Celtic.
“We are not lucky, and if you don’t score, you won’t win the game. Hopefully we’ll do well next week (in the final), ”said Zinnbauer.
Meanwhile, Celtic, opponents of the Bucs Cup final, progressed to the next phase of the CAF Confederation Cup through a victory on penalties. Union Maniema on Saturday. Celtic had won the first leg 2-0 the previous weekend, but surprisingly allowed the Democratic Republic of the Congo team to beat them with the same score at home on Saturday afternoon. The weak Free State team, which had rested the veteran players before this weekend’s final in Durban, managed to win the penalty shootout 3-2.
