JOHANNESBURG – The secretary general of the African National Congress (ANC), Ace Magashule, on Monday called the last meeting of the year of the national executive committee (NEC) of the ruling party as “frank and good”.

The ANC discussed ways to deal with members, including Magashule, who are implicated in serious crimes.

Magashule told reporters that party chairman Cyril Ramaphosa provided a political overview, which emphasized the need to build a united ANC.

He said the NEC discussed a variety of topics, including South Africa’s economy, its state-owned companies, and local government, among many other topics.

“We are at a stage where we are discussing the issues that affect our people such as the economy, employment, our relationship with the alliance structures and the fact that we have been working together this year. And looking more at the consolidation of the ANC’s unity, ”Magashule said.

Magashule briefly addressed the media via virtual platforms and confirmed that both former Presidents Thabo Mbeki and Jacob Zuma participated in the meeting.

Both could do so because of their status as former leaders of the party.
