JOHANNESBURG – The quality insurer Umalusi says eEveryone who participates in the matriculation exams must be examined.

Umalusi CEO Mafu Rakometsi says that while the processes are world-class, the human element has disappointed the system.

“What is still a problem is the human element that is involved in these exams and we have informed the department that they have to examine the officials who work on the exams,” he said.

“They have to go through them through our national intelligence agencies, to see what an individual’s criminal records are, an individual’s financial records and networks, what kind of friends they have.”

Matric students will rewrite two filtered tests.

The decision of the Department of Education has not been well received by the Democratic Teachers Union of South Africa.

The union is challenging him.
