  • Christiaan Bezuidenhout worked her way to consecutive titles on the European Tour, winning the SA Open.
  • Bezuidenhout sealed his third European Tour title at Gary Player Country Club with a five-shot victory.
  • His victory sent the South African skyrocketing the world golf rankings to 35th.

South African golfer Christiaan Bezuidenhout is a short distance from the Top 30 in the world golf rankings after its victory in Open Championship SA in Sun City.

Bezuidenhout secured back-to-back victories at home following a five-shot win at Gary Player Country Club on Sunday.

The 26-year-old signed a final round of 3 under par to finish the tournament at 18 under par with Welshman Jamie Donaldson as the closest challenger at 13 under par.

Bezuidenhout became the first player since Justin Rose in 2017 to record consecutive wins on the European Tour.

The victory was Bezuidenhout’s third European Tour title after his first win at the Andalusia Masters last year and his victory at the Alfred Dunhill Championship eight days ago.

Bezuidenhout jumped six places, from 41 to 35th – in the official world golf rankings, as he remains the second highest ranked golfer in SA, behind Louis Oosthuizen (21).

Pocketed a whopping € 160,889 (R2.9 million) for his win at Sun City and also took him to fifth place in the European Tour’s Race to Dubai rankings.

Bezuidenhout will strike the first blow at this week’s DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.

After his back-to-back victories, nine-time Major champion Gary Player praised Bezuidenhout for his win, saying “he really has been above the rest.”

Congratulations to @BezChristiaan on their #SAOpen win and their second win in a row. He has truly been above the rest and is a deserved champion. Welcome to @SouthAfricaOpen club, hope it’s the first of many“wrote Player in Twitter.
