The CEO of the disgraced Public Service Commission (PSC), Dovhani Mamphiswana, was fired after an investigation revealed that he blatantly hired his son’s mother as head of the entity.

In August, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that Mamphiswana was on preventive suspension, following the investigation.

Attorney Smanga Sethene was appointed by the State Attorney’s Office to investigate media reports that Mamphiswana had illegally appointed her son’s mother, Boitumelo Mogwe, as chief director of professional ethics in December 2019.

Sethene found that Mogwe’s appointment was the result of “nepotism, deception, dishonesty, corruption, and fraud.”

On Monday, Kamogelo Mogotsi, spokesman for Minister of Administration and Public Service Senzo Mchunu, confirmed Mamphiswana’s dismissal.

The sanction derived from the disciplinary process against the general director (DG) has been pronounced and the minister has communicated it to the DG and the president [of the disciplinary committee]. The DG has received a letter informing [him] of his dismissal, “he told News24.

Sethene’s investigation uncovered a cesspool of wrongdoing regarding Mamphiswana’s actions.

The PSC announced the position of Chief Ethics Officer in July / August 2019.

Sethene said that on October 9, the screening was done by a panel chaired by Mamphiswana.

While conducting interviews as part of her research, Sethene spoke with Johannes Mudau, director of integrity and anti-corruption at the PSC.

Mudau stated that she had advised Mogwe to approach the president and show remorse that the relationship between her and Mamphiswana was known.

In answering Sethene’s questions, Mudau said that Mogwe had stated that “she has no regrets”.

Sethene interviewed Mogwe on June 10 and she claimed that she would only undergo the process sanctioned by Ramaphosa.

On June 23, Sethene sent separate emails to Mamphiswana and Mogwe, inviting them for interviews on June 24.

In the emails, he told the couple that if they wished not to attend the interview, they should at least clarify whether they are the parents of the same child.

Sethene also wanted evidence from the media statements they individually released to the media to dispute the allegations.

While Mamphiswana ignored Sethene’s emails, Mogwe stated that her privacy rights were being violated.

DA deputy and public service spokesman Leon Schreiber said that now that Mamphiswana has been fired, they will initiate a process to “put him behind bars.”

“Nonetheless, we welcome reports that Mamphiswana was, fittingly, a bandit,” seen escorted by security guards “out of the PSC headquarters last week. And now we will continue the fight to ensure that he is escorted to the nearest jail cell. will write to both Mchunu and Ramaphosa to get written confirmation of Mamphiswana’s dismissal, ask what steps are being taken to avoid being paid another penny of taxpayer money, as well as to obtain copies of all the evidence gathered against him, “he said. said.

“I will then personally hand that information over to the investigating officer at the Cape Town Central Police Station, where the district attorney filed our criminal charges in July,” Schreiber added.
