The Kaizer Chiefs advance to the first round of the CAF Champions League after winning their preliminary round round trip against PWD Bamenda of Cameroon.
The two teams met last week in Limbe, Cameroon, where Kaizer Chiefs won the away game 0-1. The return leg was held at the FNB stadium on Saturday night and the final score was 0-0. Amakhosi advances with an aggregate score of 1-0 over the Abakwa boys.
After being initially scheduled to play on Friday at 6pm, the return leg was postponed several times due to the late arrival of the Cameroonians in South Africa. The game finally started at 8pm on Saturday night.
The game was very entertaining as both teams knew the importance of winning the match as they needed to advance to the next round of the competition.
Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt had made four changes to the roster compared to last Sunday’s clash in Cameroon.
Amakhosi came close to scoring a couple of times, but Bamenda goalkeeper Haschou Haschou was on the alert and stopped all the dangerous balls.
The Kaizer Chiefs defense was fantastic as they managed to cope with the attacks of the Abakwa Boys. Mulomowandau Mathoho’s first round goal was again great on defense with Daniel Cardoso to stop Bamenda.
Both teams made changes in the second half to try to score a goal, but no goals were scored in this entertaining match.
The Glamor Boys celebrated at the end of the match after winning the two-legged affair.
Amakhosi will host the Angolan 1st of August in the first round of the CAF Champions League on December 22 at the FNB stadium. The return leg will be in Angola on January 6.
