  • Christiaan Bezuidenhout recorded her second consecutive victory on the European Tour when she won the South African Open Championship on Sunday.
  • Bezuidenhout won the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek Country Club last week.
  • The 26-year-old sealed his victory with five shots over Jamie Donaldson at the Gary Player Country Club in Sun City.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout fulfilled the dream of any South African golfer as he advanced to victory in the Open Championship SA in Sun City on Sunday.

The 26-year-old shot a three-under-par 69 in the final round to finish all 72 holes on the Gary Player Country Club course at 18-under.

Bezuidenhout entered the tournament in good shape after a win at last week’s Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek.

The home favorite had a five-shot lead heading into the final round and scored four birdies and one bogey to seal a five-shot victory.

With the victory, Bezuidenhout made history, becoming the first golfer since Justin Rose of England in 2017 to win consecutive tournaments on the European Tour.

“It is unreal. It is the dream of every South African golfer to win his national tournament,” Bezuidenhout said after his round.

“I fought hard today, some things didn’t go my way, but I dug deep to come out with a win today.”

Welshman Jamie Donaldson fired a 69 closing three under par to finish with a 13 under par, five shots behind Bezuidenhout.

South Africa’s Dylan Frittelli posted a final round of 1 under 71 to finish third with 11 under par in the tournament.

Burmester loaded a final round of 1 under 71 to finish fourth at 10 under par.

The South African contingent was strong this weekend and several of the best in the country finished near the top of the rankings.

Nine shots behind Bezuidenhout was JC Ritchie at 9 under par, while Hennie du Plessis finished tied for fifth at 8 under par alongside German Marcel Siem and Scott Vincent of Zimbabwe.

The South African Open concludes the European Tour SA-Swing.

It is the penultimate event on the European Tour calendar before the World Tour Championship that ends the season next week.
