Windows 10 Faster on Apple Chips Than Microsoft’s Own Hardware: Report

A recently published comparison video shows that Windows 10 runs faster on Apple’s custom processors than on Microsoft’s own hardware.

In comparison, which was reported by Softpedia News – YouTuber Martin Nobel pitted a Mac Mini with an Apple Silicon M1 processor against the Surface X Pro laptop that employs Microsoft’s custom SQ2 chip.

Nobel was able to get Windows 10 up and running on Mac Mini by using the ACVM emulation launcher to run an ARM64 virtual machine instance.

Performed Geekbench 5 single-core and multi-core benchmarks to see how the system was performing.

The M1-based Mac Mini scored an impressive 1,515 for single-core performance, as opposed to the 793 on the Surface Pro X.

In multi-core tests, the Mac Mini also outperformed Microsoft’s machine, hitting 4,998 compared to 3,113 for the Surface Pro X.

Nobel also illustrated how well the 64-bit Microsoft Edge browser works on the operating system, as well as the performance of various x86-based emulated programs, such as Microsoft’s chess, solitaire and minesweeper games.

Also, he was able to run the DOSbox program without any problems.

Apple has previously mentioned that its new ARM-based processors will be compatible with Windows 10.

Speaking in a interview with Ars TechnicaApple’s senior vice president of software engineering, Craig Federighi, commented that it was up to Microsoft if they wanted to bring their operating system to their new platform.

“We have the core technologies to do that, to run their ARM version of Windows, which in turn, of course, supports x86 user-mode applications,” he said.

“But that’s a decision Microsoft has to make, license that technology for users to run on these Macs. But Macs are certainly very capable of doing it,” added Federighi.
