Pretoria – Laudium businessman Sikander Kalla was reportedly kidnapped and his driver Imtiaz “DK” Suleman was shot four times Tuesday afternoon. However, police had yet to confirm the incident late yesterday.

However, the attack has caused a stir in the business community in Pretoria and across the country.

The news broke Tuesday night with a tweet that read: “My beloved brothers in humanity. It is with great sadness that I inform everyone that Madressah Hifzul Quran’s father, Uncle Sikander Kalla, was kidnapped today. “

He went on to say: “Suleman, who was driving Sikander home, was shot and sadly is no longer with us.”

Yesterday, the business fraternity and the Laudium community woke up to the news that the head of Advance Cash n Carry Pretoria had been kidnapped and his staff member Suleman had been shot four times and left in his vehicle Tuesday afternoon.

Reports indicated that the two were driving down Rebecca Street in Pretoria West in a silver gray vehicle when they were accosted by suspects.

The men shot Suleman.

They left his slumped body behind the wheel and fled with Kalla, according to a member of the Laudium business community who asked not to be identified for fear of being attacked.

He said that since then a ransom of 180 million rand had been made for Kalla’s safe return.

SAPS spokesman Brigadier Mathapelo Peters said they were unaware of the incident and could not confirm that Kalla had been abducted or that Suleman had been killed. However, crime and community activist Yusuf Abramjee, a Laudium resident, said affected families were not yet ready to discuss the incident.

On social media, condolences came from the Muslim community, where people from other religious groups were asked to recite any paragraph of their choice, as well as a Surah Yaseen for Kalla’s safe return.

Another post had details of the driver’s funeral arrangements, described as “Anver and Meroon DK’s son, Shafia’s husband, Mishka’s father, Nasreen and Almaaz, Mamdu’s brother, Aboo and Gori Boots, Aasif Joosub’s father-in-law, Waseem Carrim and Saaif Essa ”.

In 2017, a businessman from the area, Omar Carrim, then 76, was kidnapped and released four months later.

At the time, it was feared that there was a union targeting businessmen in the area.
