JOHANNESBURG – African National Congress (ANC) secretary general Ace Magashule is visiting communities in Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni on Thursday to thank people for voting for the party during the recent by-elections.

He started his hike at 10 am in West Rand.

The ANC retained 64 neighborhoods, lost two, and gained six new neighborhoods.

Magashule is currently out on bail of 200,000 rand after appearing in court on corruption charges.

He is linked to dodgy deals involving a R225 million asbestos contract under his supervision as Prime Minister of the Free State.

Addressing supporters outside of court last month, Magashule said he would not resign for now.

“I was elected by the branches at the conference. The voices from the branches must tell me to step aside and then I will.”

This is in contrast to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s instruction that all members charged with a crime must withdraw.

He says he would never leave the ANC, regardless of what happened.
