The transfer saga continues to boom, as Brazilians stay put and demand a record transfer fee.
Mamelodi Sundowns has compared winger Gaston Sirino to Barcelona star Lionel Messi, saying there is no limit to the sale price of the Uruguayan’s suitors.
African champion Al Ahly is interested in Sirino and reportedly increased his bid for the player from R18 million to R46 million in the latest offer, but Downs remains at R92 million.
Earlier this week, Sundowns general manager Yogesh Singh was quoted as saying that they are abandoning Sirino’s negotiations with Al Ahly and will only listen to the Egyptians if they come back with an offer that “shows respect.”
In his latest statements on Sirino, Singh revealed that they want R92 million for the 29-year-old as he compared him to Messi.
“Whoever wants to sign with Messi has to pay a lot of money to sign with him and not say that there is a limit to their agreements, and the same is true with Sirino,” Singh told Yallakora.
“Al Ahly asked to buy Sirino and he made an official offer about a week ago and we rejected it, because it was in economic terms. What Al Ahly offered is much less than the expected offer. We want to collect 5 million euros to agree to Sirino’s departure from the team ”.
If the Cairo giants agree to Sundowns’ application fee, it would be a record transfer fee that Sundowns would have received for a player.
Al Ahly eliminated Senegalese midfielder Aliou Badji on Tuesday in a play that is believed to create space for Sirino in his foreign positions.
Now they are left with Tunisian left-back Ali Maaloul, Nigerian forward Junior Ajayi, Angolan forward Geraldo and Malian defender Aliou Dieng as foreign players.
“Al Ahly do not have an influential foreign player in the team. Ali Maaloul was here [in South Africa] when we beat Al Ahly 5-0, ”added Singh.
Sirino has yet to play a league game for Sundowns this season after injuring himself in MTN8’s quarter-final match against Bloemfontein Celtic, but it is speculated that he has since recovered and is refusing to train to boost Al’s play Ahly.
Singh, however, insists that the Uruguayan is injured.
“He has actually been absent from training recently, but due to a muscle injury he is expected to return in the next few days,” Singh said.
