DStv launches independent streaming service in South Africa

DStv has launched its standalone streaming service, which allows users to sign up for the full DStv experience without a satellite connection.

“Announced earlier this year during the DStv launch, DStv streaming allows new and existing customers to conveniently access content on their preferred device (mobile, tablet, game console or Smart TV) that must be linked to a constant, high-speed internet connection for an optimal viewing experience, ”the company said.

“Until recently, customers could only subscribe to DStv through a satellite connection, which meant that customers needed a cable box to access DStv content.”

By subscribing to a DStv package today, subscribers will be able to select whether they want a set-top box and satellite installation or a broadcast-only package.

Then they can watch DStv anywhere and anytime on their iOS device, Android, Chromecast, Apple TV or Smart TV.

Streaming customers can also watch their favorite shows on Catch Up on four devices, with a maximum of two simultaneous streams.

It is important to note that these DStv broadcast only packages are available month to month.

Month-to-month packages

The new broadcast-only packages from DStv are available month-to-month and no satellite dish installation is required.

These products are similar to Netflix in that customers can sign up and must watch on their own devices, authenticating through their DStv account credentials.

These packages have the following price:

Stream Only Package Price pm
DStv EasyView R29
DStv access R110
DStv family R279
DStv Compact R399
DStv Compact Plus R529
DStv Premium R819
Accessories
Add Movies R99
Add DStv India R269

“We are guided by the changing viewing habits of our customers and how and when they choose to access our content,” said Nyiko Shiburi, CEO of MultiChoice.

“The option of using the Internet to consume content speaks to how DStv continues to diversify its offerings with a clear intention of generating value and convenience for our clients.”

The official launch of Dstv’s streaming-only packages follows after the company launched its DStv Explora Ultra decoder.

This Explora Ultra set-top box also works as a set-top box and includes apps like Netflix, Showmax, DStv Now, and more.

The DStv Explora Ultra has a recommended retail price of R $ 499 for the standalone device and R $ 3699 including satellite installation.

It is important to note that the device can be used without a satellite connection after the release of these broadcast-only DStv packages.

If customers have an Internet connection at home, they can choose to use this instead of a satellite installation and simply stream their DStv content live.

South Africans can subscribe to DStv’s standalone broadcast packages at the company website.
