It has been a difficult season for the Glamor Boys coach and he has to deal with another injury absence before Friday’s Champions League game.
Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt has revealed a couple of concerns heading into Friday night’s Caf Champions League qualifying game with Cameroonian champions PWD Bamenda.
The game will take place at the FNB Stadium with the start scheduled for 6:00 p.m. It is the second of the two-game preliminary tie, as the Chiefs won the first game on Sunday, 1-0 in Limbe, Cameroon. That was thanks to an 83-minute goal from Eric Mathoho, as well as a crucial penalty save from Itumeleng Khune after that.
As things look up for Amakhosi, after a difficult start to the season, Hunt cautioned that “we can’t relax, it’s just half time. We still have another full game left and they have a lot to fight on that team.”
He also revealed that the team will not be pushed too hard in training this week.
“We will not train hard before the next game on Friday, that’s for sure. I mean we will make the recovery, and just a little work.”
Aside from the possibility of fatigue during the trip, injuries are another problem for Amakhosi. With right-back Reeve Frosler already out of the game, the Glamor Boys now have another concern after Ramahlwe Mphahlele was forced to retire injured on Sunday.
“We’ll see who, how and what, who’s available,” Hunt lamented. “Because it seems that we already have some problems with one or two players.
“I just hope it doesn’t affect our game for the following week (a league match at home with Black Leopards), which is a bigger concern at the moment.
“With Rama [Mphahlele] it is obviously a problem. You know, a big problem for us, with his hamstring. “
The Chiefs still don’t have their top scorer from last season, Serbian scorer Samir Nurkovic, who remains out with injury.
Amakhosi has never reached the group stage of the Caf Champions League.
After the PWD Bamenda and Leopards games, the Chiefs play SuperSport United and Bloemfontein Celtic in the league before the short Christmas and New Years break.
