Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema produced the I told you so card to South Africans following the cross-examination of Public Enterprise Minister Pravin Gordhan at the State Capture Commission on Monday.

Malema said defender Dali Mpofu did a good job of “exposing” Gordhan, pulling out the “I told you so” card from those who once criticized the EFF for calling for Gordhan’s resignation.

Former South African Tax Service (Sars) commissioner Tom Moyane accused Gordhan of arrogance, petty jealousy, racism and wanting to deviate from his own involvement in state capture and corruption, as well as having him against it because he had denounced the illegality. corrupt activities in Sars, including the infamous “rogue unit”, by filing state capture charges against him.

Gordhan said he emphatically denied Moyane’s claims, adding that when Moyane became Sars commissioner, it spelled Sars’s undoing.

Cross-examination was trending on social media, with some praising Dali Mpofu, who represented Moyane, while others criticizing Mpofu and Gordhan for being “arrogant.”

Gordhan said during his cross-examination that there was “a unit” that would initially come under the jurisdiction of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and that was used in the fight against illicit trade.

“This admission of the unit’s existence, which is now ironically rationalized by Gordhan as necessary to ‘fight illicit trade’ and described as the product of international benchmarking around the world, is groundbreaking …

“The EFF calls for the immediate removal of Pravin Jamnandas Gordhan from the cabinet on charges of espionage … His actions represent a violation of our democracy …”

The party also said it would report Gordhan to the parliamentary ethics committee.
