Dupavillon installs a clinic in Durban
the Gentlemen, having won the toss before opting to hit in Durban, they were hit by the Dolphins thanks to a surprising return of 7/38 (14.3) per sprinter Daryn Dupavillon.
It was a superb effort from the 26-year-old, who made his ODI debut for the Proteas against Australia in March.
Surprisingly, five of Dupavillon’s wickets were ‘thrown’ – there was also an LBW – as the Knights were all out by a measly 116.
However, the Dolphins also struggled with the bat, stuttering their way to 169/7 on stumps on day one with a 53-run lead to show their efforts.
Grant Roelofsen (65 *) was still on his feet for the hosts on a day when a total of 17 wickets fell.
Gentlemen 116 (Vandiar 39, Dupavillon 7/38, Muthusamy 2/15)
Dolphins 169/7 (Roelofson 65 *, Zondo 35, Coetzee 3/38)
Dolphins lead by 53 runs with three wickets remaining in the first inning
Malan remembers Proteas’s credentials with Cobras ton
Can opener Pieter malan was the backbone of the Cobras’ 351/5 first inning at the end of the opening day of their showdown against the Titans at SuperSport Park.
The Titans’ Malan or Aiden Markram, also in racing this domestic season, are expected to open up the batting for the Proteas against Sri Lanka later this year alongside Dean Elgar and this was a massive statement from the 31-year-old.
Malan was finally fired for 125 on a day when the rest of the Cobras made starts but failed.
Aviwe Mgijima was the exception at number 5, with a fine of 86.
The Cobras are the only team in this year’s competition that have yet to register a victory and coach Ashwell Prince will surely be satisfied with their position in the match thus far.
Markram took one wicket and two catches for the Titans, while Lizaad Williams, Thando Ntini, Dayyaan Galiem and Grant Thomson each took one wicket.
Cobras 351/5 (Malan 125, Runner 86, Thomson 1/11, Markram 1/17)
Cobras lead by 351 with five windows remaining in the first inning

Wesley Marshall’s 145s helped the Lions reach a 385/8 against the Warriors in Port Elizabeth.
The 26-year-old Easterns product wasted no time after reaching No. 4 with his team in trouble at 2/15, facing just 160 balls and scoring 21 fours and 3 sixes along the way.
He was supported by Ryan Rickelton (72) and Proteas’ all-rounder Wiaan Mulder (91).
Basheer Walters was the bowlers’ choice for the hosts and after doing initial damage up front, he also scooped up a couple of important scalps in the final session to finish 5/58.
Lions 385/8 (Marshall 145, Mulder 91, Rickelton 72, Walters 5/58)
The Lions lead by 385 with five wickets remaining from the first inning.
