HARARE – A thousand chickens were killed by a single lightning strike in western Zimbabwe.
The country’s meteorological services department is warning of more storms and a greater potential for flash floods and lightning this week.
Images posted by the Sunday news display charred remains of chickens at the poultry farm in Ntabazinduna, Matabeleland North.
The lightning struck during one of several torrential rains to hit the region last week.
Poultry farmer Sidumisile Mathe described a huge fireball engulfing his poultry pen, killing his 1,000 chickens just three days before they were released to market.
She told the newspaper that her losses amounted to tens of thousands of rand.
