Cape Town – A Parkwood family is heartbroken after their disabled son was stabbed to death on his 17th birthday after a chain he had given him was stolen.
Kyle Bruiners’ family said they were excited to celebrate his 17th birthday on Saturday, but the day ended in tragedy when he was stabbed to death, while his uncle and stepfather were injured in the same incident.
Police have yet to make any arrests for Kyle’s murder, despite the family saying they knew the alleged perpetrators.
Kyle’s grandmother, Ann Bruiners, said they were saddened by his death.
“The guys who did this were Kyle’s childhood friends. They often used to threaten and intimidate him, but have now fled the area after the incident. They told him they would stab him.
“Kyle had mental problems, but he was always friendly with everyone around him. However, he often came into conflict with these friends after they continually attacked him. “
Bruiners said Kyle was excited to celebrate his birthday and enjoyed a day of family swag in the hours leading up to his death.
“We live in a court where we are all like a family. The children’s family has already come to apologize to us and we are not angry with the parents because they were not the ones who did it. We will wait for justice to be served, ”said Bruiners.
Police spokesman Noloyiso Rwexana said the murder and attempted murder cases were opened for investigation.
“The murder and attempted murder cases were opened for investigation by Grassy Park police after a stabbing that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old boy and two other victims, aged 33 and 35, who were injured.
According to the information, the incident occurred on Willow Road in Grassy Park (Saturday night) around 9 pm.
“It is reported that the deceased was previously assaulted by the suspects, who then returned and stabbed the victims.
“The circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation and there are no arrests at this stage,” Rwexana said.
Grassy Park CPF spokesman Philip Bam expressed his condolences to Kyle’s family.
“Resorting to violence is too easy. In this case it was a robbery. We condemn violence in any form, but especially when it is directed at young people.
“We ask SAPS to do everything possible to arrest the suspect and ensure that a strong message is sent to the community that crime will not pay. The cycle of violence must be broken, ”Bam said.
