Manchester United legend reveals Bruno Fernandes weakness

Manchester United legend Dimitar Berbatov has pointed out the main weakness in Bruno Fernandes’ game and how Solskjaer must combat it.

Lately, Manchester United’s performances have shown signs of improvement and most of the credit goes to their midfield teacher Bruno Fernandes. Since arriving at Old Trafford in January, the club have been producing impressive results and even secured a third place in the Premier League last season.

This season, while United got off to a pretty rough start, the Portuguese international handled the situation quite well at the end and now it looks like the Red Devils are back on their feet.

Fernandes has already scored 21 goals in just 35 appearances for the club. This is a feat no other United midfielder has accomplished before him. His performance against Istanbul Basaksehir on Tuesday night was also very impressive, when he scored 2 goals and his impressive volley was awarded Best Goal of the Week.

His performance appears to have caught the attention of former forward Dimitar Berbatov, but he believes Fernandes also has a major flaw in his game. The Manchester United legend criticized his defensive skills, though he was also lacking in praise for the Portuguese’s skills on the other side of the field.

According to Berbatov, Fernandes is brilliant in attack but does not contribute as much to the defensive side of things. So United need a player to cover them. As reported by the Metro, the Bulgarian said:

“Fernandes has impressed me a lot and the only weakness I see in him is his defensive side. There you can improve a little.

“However, he is an offensive midfielder, who creates chances, scores goals and on the field is where he has his power. So I think it’s good to have someone on the team to cover him. “

Bruno’s weakness must have already been spotted by Solskjaer and that is perhaps why he has continued to use the duo of Fred and McTominay behind him. However, that won’t be the case against Southampton tomorrow as the Scottish midfielder looks set to miss the match. So it will be interesting how the manager decides to combat that problem.
