One of North West’s “most wanted” suspects has appeared in Taung Magistrates Court on charges of commercial theft.

Golaotsemang Christopher Lobelo, 35, was arrested Wednesday in the village of Khibitswane after the investigation team received a tip.

Lobelo and four accomplices allegedly entered a toiletries store in Morokweng village on Friday, November 20.

“The owner and his wife, who were sleeping, woke up and the husband, 33, went to investigate. The suspects, who were found inside the store, pointed a firearm at the husband and ordered him to leave before of assaulting him and shooting him in the leg, “said police spokesman Colonel Adéle Myburgh.

The 30-year-old woman locked herself in the bedroom but the attackers broke in and overpowered her. They allegedly took the keys to a silver Chevrolet, which they used to flee the scene with stolen items, including electrical equipment, groceries and cash.

“After the arrest, the defendant was positively linked to more home and business burglaries allegedly committed in and around Taung, Pudimoe and Klerksdorp,” Myburgh said.

The accused is in preventive detention. He will then appear in court on Thursday.
