Chiefs prepare for Cameroon challenge

Kaizer Chiefs will begin their sixth campaign in the CAF Champions League with a trip to Cameroon to face PWD Bamenda on Sunday, November 29 at Omnisports Stadium in Limbe Cameroon. The meeting is a first stage of the preliminary round.

The bosses will aim to surpass the Cameroonian champions and progress in the competition. The journey to African success begins for Amakhosi with his first trip to Central Africa and his first encounter with Cameroonian opponents in a CAF competition.

The Chiefs will fly to Cameroon via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Thursday night and will be in Douala Cameroon on Friday morning, before making a 77 km trip to the southwestern coastal city of Limbe. where the game will take place.

Club President Kaizer Motaung reiterated the historical significance of the clash by saying: “This is an important journey for us. It is the first time we have played in Cameroon. It happens on our 50th anniversary milestone. And it happens as Cameroon prepares to host the African Cup of Nations. So, we will go out to fly the South African flag with pride. I wish the team a safe journey and a victory on Sunday.

Amakhosi will have a training session in Limbe on Friday afternoon on one of the grounds surrounding the stadium. The team will then train in the main field on Saturday afternoon as they look to feel the conditions of a match in the picturesque city that sits in the foothills of the famous Mount Cameroon.

This is the sixth time that the Chiefs will participate in the CAF Champions League and their first appearance will be in 1993. Amakhosi will try to overtake his Cameroonian rivals in two games and advance to the next round. The winner of this round will face the Angolan Primero De Agosto in two matches in the first round and the winner of that clash will advance to the group stage with 15 other teams.

The Chiefs will leave Limbe Monday afternoon for Douala airport and should be home by Tuesday morning.

The game will begin at 3:00 p.m. local time (4:00 p.m. SA) on Sunday. Details will be available as soon as there is a confirmation that the game will be broadcast live on television.

The return leg will be played on the weekend of December 4-6 with a date yet to be confirmed. The game will take place at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.
