The ANC Mpumalanga has reversed its decision to reinstate a provincial leader accused of raping two eight-year-old girls.

News24 confirmed that the provincial executive committee met Thursday after public pressure. The decision to reinstate him had caused widespread outrage.

ANC Mpumalanga Acting Chairman Mandla Ndlovu confirmed the decision.

He said the party will soon issue a statement on the matter.

The 48-year-old man, who cannot be identified to protect the identity of the two alleged minor victims, was charged along with his 26-year-old stepson.

Earlier this week, the Nelspruit Magistrates Court relaxed bail conditions against the defendant to allow him to perform his work at the ANC. He is out on bail of 20,000 rand.
