Six people, including a six-month-old baby, were brutally murdered at their home in the Eastern Cape on the eve of the 16 Days of Activism for Non-Violence Against Women and Children campaign.

Police spokesman Brig Tembinkosi Kinana said neighbors raised the alarm after discovering “something wrong” at the family home in Dabekweni, Kwaaiman.

Upon arrival, the police found six bodies, including a 42-year-old woman and her children, aged between six months and ten years.

Kinana said that an ax found at the scene was believed to be the murder weapon.

“The 42-year-old mother’s husband, who is of Zimbabwean origin, is alleged to have disappeared. The police believe that they can assist in the investigations of the case, ”Kinana said.

No arrests have been made.

Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga described the incident as devastating.

“It is inconceivable that right on the opening day of the 16 Days of Activism we could wake up to such a horrible and harrowing incident.

“Whoever is behind these horrible and ruthless killings must be found without delay,” Ntshinga said.

Anyone with information about the case can contact the nearest police station or call Crime Stop 08600 10111.
