JOHANNESBURG – This Black Friday will be like no other due to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).
Many retailers expanded their offerings throughout the month and expanded the selection of products available to buy online to avoid overcrowding in stores.
While many shoppers have become accustomed to shopping online to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, this may not be the case for all South Africans due to data issues and network issues.
Below is a list of stores that have confirmed that they will offer Black Friday deals during the day and around that day:
Game and Makro:
Both Game and Makro are running online and in special stores on Black Friday from November 2 to 29, with new deals announced each week that are valid for that week only. The game will also offer Cyber Monday deals on Monday, November 30, but these will run exclusively online.
For both stores, the shipping fee is capped at R90.
Shoprite / Ladies:
Shoprite and Checkers supermarkets offer deals and discounts of up to 50% on everyday essentials. Offers will also be available for longer to help prevent overcrowding.
Choose and pay:
The retailer launched its Black Friday deals, which will last for two weeks. This follows the online-only deals that the retailer launched on November 13. Customers can expect up to 50% off hundreds of products.
Adidas:
Adidas runs its Black Friday sales from Tuesday, November 24 to Monday, November 30, with discounts of up to 50% at adidas.co.za and in Adidas stores nationwide.
Cougar:
Puma South Africa is offering up to 60% off clothing, footwear and accessories during its extended Black Friday sale. This special is from Monday, November 23 to Sunday, November 29, 2020.
Just one day:
OneDayOnly.co.za will offer special offers on select products during the week leading up to Black Friday, with discounts increasing in value each day, culminating in its exclusive 100% off Black Friday deals.
Whether there will be meandering lines at shopping malls remains to be seen because the government has recommended that people adhere to social distancing, disinfection and wearing masks.
