Burnley’s wonderful goal from Spurs forward Son Heung-min, selected for goal of the year

Spurs forward Son Heung-min has been shortlisted as one of 11 nominees for the best goal of the year award.

The South Korean forward has been in lethal form for Tottenham this season, scoring nine goals in nine Premier League games and bagging 11 in total in all competitions.

The 28-year-old, the division’s top scorer thus far, and fellow leader Harry Kane have formed a brilliant partnership in recent seasons and that form has helped carry the Spurs to the top of the table this span.

Now Son has been nominated for the Puskas Award for his impressive solo goal against Burnley last season.

Son picked up the ball on the edge of the Spurs penalty area and then headed for the Claret’s goal.

He slalomed his way through Burnley’s team and hit the ball home to Nick Pope in a 5-0 victory.

After scoring the goal, Son said: “I think it’s the best goal of my life.

“I don’t know what happened to the end!

“When I got the ball I tried to pass it to Dele Alli and waited for his move.

“But I couldn’t find him, so I went and left. I’m happy to score this goal.”

At the time, former striker Gary Lineker described the goal as one of the best individual goals you’re likely to see and that it was the best of the season.

He will compete with other 2020 nominees, including Jordan Flores’ impressive volley for Dundalk against Shamrock Rovers in the Irish league, the Barcelona team’s goal against Mallorca, finished off by Luis Suárez, and Giorgian de Arrascaeta’s aerial kick for Flamengo against Ceara. in Brazil, among others.

The votes of FIFA.com users will reduce them to a final trio.
