Former Kazier Chiefs coach Ernst middendorp He’s gotten one step closer to a sensational comeback as a top flight coach in South Africa.

Middendorp has give up as head coach of the Ethiopian giants Saint George SC alone one month on his three-year contract, paving the way for a fourth stint as coach of Maritzburg United.
Middendorp made itself known on the East African side in mid-October when it moved quickly from its dismissal from Amakhosi.
However, citing current political unrest and concerns about his family, the 62-year-old German has tendered his resignation with immediate effect, which was reportedly accepted reluctantly by the club’s hierarchy.
According to the KickOff website, Middendorp is said to have offered two months of his salary as compensation to mutually terminate his three-year contract with the 29-time league champions.

Off-field troubles aside, Middendorp’s resignation opens the door for a return to KwaZulu-Natal’s Maritzburg United, who currently have no head coach following the firing of Eric Tinkler earlier in the week.
Maritzburg United also don’t have a single DStv Premiership record point after losing all four of their games this season.
Middendorp has an extensive coaching resume and twice held the highest position in Kaizer Chiefs (2005-2007 and 2018-2020).
In addition to his three previous seasons at Maritzburg United, he has also held coaching positions with Golden Arrows, Bloemfontein Celtic, Free State Stars and Chippa United.
Maritzburg United will be next in action on Friday at home to SuperSport United. The start is at 20:00.
Since then, Delron Buckley has taken over the training sessions at the Team of choice and he’s ready to lead the team at Harry Gwala Stadium.
