Mshoza’s close friends gave fans a glimpse of the woman who was far from the limelight through heartfelt speeches at a memorial service in her honor in Newtown, Johannesburg, on Thursday.

the Kortes Hitmaker died last Thursday of complications related to diabetes, at age 37.

Drum journalist and close friend Mathawe Matsapola explained that she met the star when she was a young journalist starting out in the industry. The search for a story allowed their paths to cross and they quickly realized that they had “clicked”, forging a friendship.

Mathawe explained how he got the chance to meet Nomasonto (Mshoza’s real name), the woman behind the superstar.

“When I got a call in the middle of the night from Sonto, I knew that is hot … I must wake up and answer your call. We talked and prayed together on the phone, when she was in different hospitals … When she woke up, I was there to pray with her ”.

Mathawe praised Mshoza for not being fake, allowing herself to be vulnerable with her feelings, and living “her life for herself first.”

“I remember this time in December 2017, he called me in the middle of the night, I was at home in Limpopo, he called me and he was crying, he was not well … He said,“ Thawes, when I die, please always remind them to my children that I love them ”. And he did, he loved them, ”said a grim Mathawe.
