The discovery of two bodies in a house in the village of Nkambako on the outskirts of Tzaneen on Monday has left many questions unanswered.
According to police spokesman Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the couple’s relatives became suspicious after numerous unsuccessful attempts to contact them and decided to search for them at their home.
“The family then decided to go to the man’s house. Upon arrival, they forced the door and were greeted by a bad smell coming from the house,” he said.
They found a 36-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman dead in bed in a state of decomposition and immediately called the police.
“The deceased were identified as Phindile Rikhotso and Lucky Ramahlabane. The motive behind this incident is unclear at this stage, but domestic violence cannot be ruled out,” Ngoepe said.
He said the cause of death is currently unknown and will be determined by the post-mortem examination that will still be performed.
Ngoepe said that police investigations are still continuing.
