Hers was the wedding of the decade, yet when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot in May 2018, all eyes were on the Duchess of Cambridge and her mother-in-law, the Duchess of Cornwall.
Royal eagle-eyed watchers observed how the body language between the two seemed too controlled at times, while at other times they seemed to share a secret joke.
Now, celebrated biographer Sean Smith may have put an end to speculation with his latest book, ‘Meghan Misundersknown’, a volume dedicated to the Duchess of Sussex.
In his book, Smith covers Meghan and Harry’s big day, going into minute detail about how specific members of the British royal family reacted that day.
“When I saw Harry and Meghan’s wedding in May 2019, less than eighteen months earlier, the most memorable elements for me were the quiet grace of their mother Doria, the exquisite performance of the cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, the Kingdom Choir singing ‘Stand By Me’. ‘Acapella and the long and passionate sermon of the Most Reverend Michael Curry on the power of love, ”Smith wrote.
According to the British publication, the Daily Express, he described the royals as “fascinated”, “pompous” and “stunned” as he reacted to Reverend Michael Curry’s sermon.
Also describing Kate and Camilla’s reaction that day, he suggested that they had to avoid making eye contact, or else they would burst into a fit of laughter.
“Prince Charles read and reread the order of service as if it were the last fascinating issue of Country Life magazine; his wife Camilla and Kate Middleton were trying desperately not to make eye contact, ”Smith wrote.
It seems the two sharing a moment, albeit at the reverend’s expense, may have been the catalyst for their close bond. The two have always seen each other in recent years during royal occasions.
