The ANC’s new technology-based membership system was so tech savvy that it would eliminate the membership tampering or surveillance that has dogged the party in recent years and may also speed up the delivery of membership cards, he said.
“That is part of the renewal, so that we get rid of the tendencies that we have had in the past where members join other members,” he said of the system.
A lot of “fun stuff” was happening under the old system, including buying members and mass buying membership cards, he said.
“All of that is part of the renewal process and is aimed at strengthening the ANC and as we strengthen the ANC, our communities become stronger, our nation becomes stronger,” Ramaphosa said. “With the old system there were a lot of controls where some people were prevented from joining,” Ramaphosa said.
“Now that is a thing of the past. If you are a guardian, you no longer have a job. Membership is managed in the cloud system, it gets rid of the bad practices of the past ”, he added.
