Pretoria – A 45-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping two minor girls, ages 11 and 13, after luring them into a hotel, Gauteng police said Monday.

Police spokesman Brig. Mathapelo Peters said Sunnyside, Pretoria police responded to a report of the rape of two minor girls at a Pretoria hotel on Friday.

“The suspect was reported to have taken the two minors from Lotus Gardens in Atteridgeville to a liquor store in Pretoria West and from there, the three made their way to the hotel, where the suspect booked a room where he allegedly raped both victims,” Peters said.

“It has also been reported that the youngest victim managed to escape and alerted the people who were in the hotel.

“Hotel security was alerted and the police were called and the suspect, who was still in the hotel room, was subsequently arrested.”

She said that according to investigators from SAPS ‘Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Crimes Unit (FCS), the 45-year-old was making his first appearance Monday in Pretoria Regional Court.

“Investigators at this stage have been able to confirm that the suspect is on probation after serving time for a previous rape case,” Peters said.

Gauteng Acting Police Commissioner Major General Patricia Rampota has welcomed the arrest and urged investigators to work closely with prosecutors to build an airtight case in the best interest of justice for minor victims. .
