JOHANNESBURG – The case against a man who was arrested after being beaten by supporters of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) at a protest in Brackenfell has been referred to the police.
He was attacked after interrupting a speech by EFF leaders and was later arrested on a charge of incitement.
The EFF had come to Brackenfell High School to protest racial segregation allegations stemming from a private tuition party attended by only a few white students, parents and teachers.
Meanwhile, Popcru said the apparent threat from EFF leader Julius Malema against police officers could lead to violence against women and men in blue.
Addressing supporters in the Free State on Sunday, Malema made what the union viewed as an inflammatory comment about police officers.
Malema’s statement was reportedly addressed to the police after last Friday’s fight that broke out during an EFF protest in Cape Town.
Richard Mamabolo of the union said Malema was irresponsible and there could be dire consequences.
