The woman is alleged to have been waiting for an electronic taxi service to take her home after her night shift ended, when she was robbed and shot.

The man who was arrested is expected to appear in court on Monday.

Ward Councilor Angus McKenzie said the community would protest in court.

“I am protesting and we are going to petition the court … we do not want this person to get any kind of bond. We worked very hard as a community on Friday to bring the perpetrator on record. Now we need to [the] let the justice system work for us, “he said.
