Bulls set sights on Frans Steyn, Junior Pokomela for PRO16

The Vodacom Bulls have reportedly focused on the loan of Springbok and Cheetahs center Frans Steyn for the duration of PRO16.

Sunday newspaper Relationship reported that Steyn is one of two Cheetahs players on the Bulls’ radar, the other being the vice-captain and flank Junior Pokomela.

The Cheetahs have lost their place in an expanded PRO16 competition, which will begin in March after the Currie Cup, with the Bulls, Sharks, Lions and Stormers included.

The report states that the Bulls would need the go-ahead from both the Cheetahs and SA Rugby, given that both Steyn and Pokomela are players of national interest and have national contracts.

Steyn and Pokomela were called up for the Springbok Green vs Gold game and have been an important part of the Cheetahs’ success in the Super Rugby Unlocked competition.

Cheetah squad: comings and goings

The Cheetahs, who earlier this week asked for positions on the national registry to determine PRO16 entrants, have already lost prop Luan de Bruin, blocked Walt Steenkamp and JP du Preez, lazy forward Jasper Wiese, center Benhard Janse van Rensburg and utility Tapiwa Mafura return from the team that started the season of Super Rugby Unlocked.
