Three children died after a house in Northam, Limpopo, caught fire on Saturday.
The children, a baby and two young children, were home alone at the time of the fire, said police spokesman Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe.
“It is alleged that on Saturday … around 08:00, in the Smasher block, Northam, a woman left three children alone to buy food in local shops. Along the way, she was informed that her house was on fire She ran back home and found the house on fire, “he added.
Police officers, firefighters and emergency services personnel went to the scene.
The children were declared dead at the scene.
They have been identified as Sinenhlahla Tsotetsi, 5 months old, and Jabulane Tsotetsi and Katlego Mogale, 2 years old.
The cause of the fire is still unknown at this stage, Ngoepe said.
